Strategic Plan and Funding

UCalgary Law 2010 - 2015  Energy. Skill. Excellence.

On May 4, 2010, the Faculty of Law Council approved a new Strategic Plan for the Faculty.  Our new Strategic Plan confirms and elaborates upon the goals that were the core of our successful 2004-2009 Plan:

1. To establish the Faculty's JD program as the premier program in Western Canada;

2. To confirm an international reputation for excellence in the Faculty's specialization: resources, energy and environmental law.

The 2010-2015 plan adds a third goal:

3. To achieve national recognition for our "Excellence in Lawyering" legal skills program.

The focus of the 2010-2015 Strategic Plan is on two initiatives:

  • The creation of a Centre for Resources, Energy and Environmental Law (CREEL) that will include a closer relationship with the independent but affiliated Canadian Institute of Resources Law (CIRL). The Centre will serve as an umbrella for a range of existing programs and new Faculty initiatives in this critical legal field.
  • Three areas of lawyering knowledge and skills that will guide our Excellence in Lawyering initiatives:
    • Dispute resolution
    • Advocacy
    • Ethics

For alumni and friends looking to help the Faculty of Law achieve goals laid out in our new Strategic Plan, find out the different ways of  giving that are available.

2004 - 2009 Strategic Plan and Fundraising Campaign

The Law School is grateful to all those who supported our previous Strategic Plan, which saw major renovations to Murray Fraser Hall to accommodate an increase in our programs and student numbers. See our Donor Impact Report, Fostering Excellence: Seizing the Initiative, which describes in detail the progress made on the goals set out in our 2004-2009 plan.  Please see also our Donor Honour Roll and the list of members of the Dean's Community Council for the names of those who helped us achieve the goals of our 2004-2009 Strategic Plan.
