University of Calgary

For Employers

The Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary has increasingly been attracting the best and brightest students from across the country.

The high academic standards of the Faculty along with extra-curricular activities at the University of Calgary's Law School make U of C students stand out . The Faculty has become a strong academic law school and has been strengthened by the hiring of a number of outstanding legal scholars.

Trial advocacy, a course that every law student is required to take, and dispute resolution are highly successful upper-year courses that enhance our students' legal skills. There has also been a long tradition of student participation in national mooting and debating programs with high success. In addition, Student Legal Assistance continues to be one of our most highly regarded extra-curricular activities where students gain direct experience with clients and in the court room.

Articling

Aligning with our strategic plan of being an internationally recognized law school, our students have an excellent articling placement rate each year approaching 100% with students securing articles nationally and locally.

Summer

Corporation, firm or public interest organization -- opportunities an opportunity to summer with an organization contributes to our students’ legal education and prepares them for professional legal practice upon graduation. Summer opportunities with corporations are particularly valuable to those students with identified interests in specific sectors, such as oil and gas or corporate finance. Research and administrative work are typically the focus of summer positions.

Part-time Legal Work

Many of our students work during the semester to fund their legal education. We encourage students to work in law-related positions. If you require assistance on a part-time basis during the school year, a number of our students would be very interested in working with you.
