Faculty of Law Graduate Scholarships are generally available only to full-time students in the thesis-based LLM program. The Faculty of Graduate Studies also has a number of scholarships for which students can apply, and an open scholarship competition each spring for which the

1. The Alberta Law Foundation Graduate Scholarship

SOURCE OF FUNDS: The Alberta Law Foundation

FIELD OF STUDY: Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Law

VALUE: $14,000

NUMBER: Ten

DURATION: One year, not renewable

ELIGIBILITY: Open to full-time graduate students who are registered in or admissible to a program of studies leading to a Master's degree in the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary. Selection will be based on academic excellence and proven ability of the applicant in the area of study.

WHERE TENABLE: The Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary.

APPLY: Awards will be recommended to the University of Calgary Graduate Scholarship Committee by a Committee of the Faculty of Law based upon academic excellence and proven ability of the applicant in the area of study. The awards will be subject to the approval of the University of Calgary Graduate Scholarship Committee.

2. The Honourable N.D. McDermid Graduate Scholarships in Law

DONOR: McDermid Law Fund in memory of the late Honourable Neil Douglas McDermid, Q.C. who was a prominent member of the legal profession of Alberta and the Calgary community for many years.

VALUE: $12,000

NUMBER: Maximum Two

DURATION: One year, not renewable.

ELIGIBILITY: Offered annually to graduate students enrolled on a full-time basis in the LL.M. program in the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary. If, in the opinion of the University of Calgary Graduate Scholarship Committee, no suitable applications are received, no awards will be made.

WHERE TENABLE: University of Calgary

APPLY: Awards will be recommended by a Committee of the Faculty of Law based upon academic excellence and proven ability in the area of study. The awards will be subject to the approval of the University of Calgary Graduate Scholarship Committee.

3. Faculty of Law Graduate Scholarship

SOURCE OF FUNDS: Contributions made to the Focus on Natural Resources Law Campaign; matching grant provided from the Province of Alberta.

FIELD OF STUDY: Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Law.

VALUE: Up to $10,500

NUMBER: One

DURATION: One year, not renewable.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to full-time graduate students who are registered in or admissible to a program of studies leading to a Master's degree in the Faculty of Law. 5. Canadian Petroleum Law Foundation

ELIGIBILITY: Open to full-time graduate students who are registered in or admissible to a program of studies leading to a Master's degree in the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary. Selection will be based on thesis topic(s) that are of interest to Canadian oil and gas lawyers; or recipient(s) intending to make a significant contribution to Canadian oil and gas legal practice.

APPLY: Awards will be recommended to the Canadian Petroleum Law Foundation by a committee of the Faculty of Law based upon academic excellence and proven ability of the applicant in the area of study. The awards will be subject to the approval of the Canadian Petroleum Law Foundation.

6. Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation Scholarship Program

The Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation (RMMLF) Scholarship Program is open to LLB and Graduate students who demonstrate a commitment to study natural resources law, or who is undertaking the study of natural resouces law. The RMMLF offer a number of different programs, from travel reimbursement and networking programs, to tuition scholarships. The RMMLF Scholarship Program was established in 1993 to encourage study of natural resources law by well-qualified law students who have the potential to make significant contirbutions to scholarship in natural resources law. The RMMLF Scholarship Program was recently increased from $70,000.00 to $200,000.00 annually.

The law school is one of the governing organizations of the RMMLF of Denver, Colorado. The Foundation, founded in 1955 by representatives of Mining and Oil and Gas Associations, State Bar Associations, and US and Canadian Law Schools with Natural Resources Law Programs, presents a major annual conference, a wide range of seminars and short courses, as well as a wide menu of publications. It operates in the US and internationally.
