Biography: 

After receiving his LL.B. in 1973, Pat spent three years in the Northwest Territories in general practice, but concentrated on criminal defence work. In 1977 he joined the office of the Alberta Attorney General to undertake criminal prosecutions and served in that capacity until 1986. In 1986 he took leave from the Attorney General’s Department to become Lawyer-in-Residence at the Law School with responsibility for teaching criminal law subjects. Pat was appointed Queen's Counsel (Q.C.) in 1994.

Teaching: 

Pat retired at the end of June 2009 but continues to teach Law 511: Criminal Process and Law 403: Legislation, Administration & Policy.

He won a Student Union Teaching Excellence Award in 2006 and the Howard Tidswell Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence in 2009.

Research / Scholarly Activities: 

Pat's academic interest is concentrated in the criminal, administrative and police law areas

Professional Service: 

Pat is a former member of the Calgary Police Commission and served as Chair of the Alberta Law Enforcement Review Board from 1992 to 2001.
