In Memoriam: Robert McArthur, Cumming School of Medicine
The Cumming School of Medicine is morning the loss of professor emeritus Dr. Robert McArthur, MD. He was 86.
McArthur was a paediatric endocrinologist and one of the first faculty members of the University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine (now Cumming School of Medicine). He was department head of paediatrics in the Faculty of Medicine from 1986 to 1991.
As a medical administrator, his incredible legacy of achievement includes helping medical facilities for five hospitals and four countries.
He published over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals, contributed several chapters in books and wrote a book helping children with diabetes. "Dr. Bob," as his patients called him, established a protocol for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis with his team over the period from 1969 to 1991.
